Terms of Service
Last updated: 4 November 2025
1. Introduction
Welcome to WordBookmark (“we”, “us”, “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of our website and service available at wordbookmark.com (the “App”). By accessing or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. Description of service
WordBookmark helps users save English words they want to learn, shows definitions, and provides practice via a spaced-repetition review system. The App also generates example sentences using an AI (Large Language Model) for contextual learning.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use the App. By using the App you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.
4. Accounts and access
- You register using an email address and may optionally set a username.
- We use Flask sessions (secure, signed cookies) to maintain login state. You are responsible for keeping your account details confidential.
- Do not share your account credentials. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorised use.
5. Content, accuracy and disclaimers
Definitions are retrieved from the Free Dictionary API and example sentences are generated by an LLM. While we try to provide useful, accurate content, WordBookmark does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of any definitions or generated sentences. You acknowledge that AI-generated content may contain errors, and you use the App at your own risk. We are not responsible for mistakes in meanings, grammar, or example sentences.
6. User content and ownership
Users may enter words to save to their account. You retain ownership of the words and notes you add. By submitting words you grant WordBookmark a non-exclusive right to store and process that content to provide the service.
7. Payments and donations
WordBookmark is currently free to use. You may donate via our Buy Me a Coffee page. We may introduce paid or premium features in the future; these Terms will be updated if we do so.
8. Third parties and integrations
The App uses third-party services including Google Analytics (for website analytics), the Free Dictionary API (for definitions), an LLM provider to generate example sentences, Brevo for transactional/marketing emails, and Render for hosting. Third-party providers have their own terms and privacy practices.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, WordBookmark and its affiliates, officers, agents and employees will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special or exemplary damages arising from your use of the App. We do not accept liability for inaccurate dictionary definitions or AI-generated content.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate access to the App at any time for any reason (including suspected abuse). You may close your account by contacting us via the contact form at /contact.
11. Changes to these terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. If material changes occur we will post notice on the App. Continued use after changes indicates acceptance of the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of the App will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
13. Contact
If you have questions about these Terms, please contact us using the contact form at /contact.
